Answer - Adolescence: Adolescence is a Latin word which means to develop towards maturity. This is a condition when a person is neither a child nor an adult.
In simple words - adolescence is that rapid stage of development when children move towards adulthood. In this, boys start looking like young men and girls look like young women. Adolescence is the transition period between childhood and adulthood. This stage is also called “Teenage” which is considered to be from 13-19 years (Thirteen – Nineteen).
Physical development during adolescence begins with puberty which means beginning of sexual maturity. During this period almost 75% of adult height and about 50% of adult weight is gained.
Physical changes in teenage girls:
- Breasts develop and waist line becomes clear.
- The uterus and vagina become internally powerful.
- Hair starts growing on the genitals and armpits.
- The voice changes and becomes full and melodious.
- Mensuration begins, Mensuration means regular discharge of waste blood mucus and broken down cells and tissues from the uterus every 28 days.
- Small soft hairs appear on the face (above the lips and on the cheeks).
- The skin becomes harder and thicker than in childhood. The oil glands present in the skin become larger and more active. And acne starts appearing on the face.

Physical changes in teenagers:
- Hair starts growing on the genitals and armpits.
- The voice becomes heavy.
- The skin becomes hard and thick and pimples also appear on the face.
- Muscular strength increases.
- Hair grows on the face of boys which gradually becomes thick and hard and takes the form of beard and moustache.

Positive impact

- By promoting sports, social service etc., media can encourage teenagers to participate in these activities.
Negative impact
- Teenagers are often influenced by celebrities and consider stars, professional athletes, film stars and television actors as their role models and leave their own personality behind.
- Artists and models influence the youth with their ideal body shape. Most girls start controlling their diet due to which many types of eating disorders arise.
- Boys are also becoming obsessed with weight training and taking medications and dietary supplements to increase their muscle mass and ability to lift more weight.
