The traffic is getting worse, and the air quality is becoming poor. This is causing many problems for the people here. The heavy traffic causes pollution, accidents, and long delays. It makes daily travel difficult and harms our health.

To solve this issue, we must take collective action. People should use public transport, carpool, and walk or cycle for short distances. The government should also work on improving public transport so it’s easier for everyone to use. I hope the readers will join hands to help reduce the number of vehicles on the road and make Kolkata a better place.

One of the biggest issues with bursting crackers is air pollution. The smoke released by crackers contains harmful chemicals like sulfur and carbon dioxide, which make the air toxic. This pollution is especially dangerous for children, elderly people, and those with respiratory diseases like asthma. Every year after Diwali or other celebrations, cities experience smog and poor air quality, making it difficult to breathe. Apart from pollution, bursting crackers is also a waste of money. People spend thousands of rupees on fireworks, which disappear in just a few seconds. Instead of wasting money on something harmful, we can use it for meaningful purposes like helping the poor, planting trees, or donating to charities.

Another major concern is the health hazards caused by crackers. The loud noise can lead to hearing problems, stress, and even anxiety in pets and birds. Many accidents also happen due to firecrackers, leading to burns and injuries. These dangers make it clear that crackers are not safe for anyone. Instead of bursting crackers, we should shun this harmful practice and opt for eco-friendly celebrations. Lighting diyas, decorating homes, and enjoying sweets with family and friends are wonderful ways to celebrate. If fireworks are necessary, a public display of fireworks can be arranged in a controlled manner to reduce pollution and ensure safety.

The event began in the school auditorium, where the principal addressed the students. She spoke about how bursting crackers leads to severe air and noise pollution, harms animals, and increases the risk of respiratory diseases. She also encouraged students to take responsibility for spreading this important message to their families and communities.

The students, carrying colorful banners and placards, marched through the nearby streets, chanting slogans like “Say No to Crackers, Yes to Clean Air” and “Green Diwali, Clean Diwali.” They also distributed pamphlets to pedestrians and shopkeepers, highlighting the harmful effects of firecrackers. The pamphlets explained how firecrackers release toxic gases like sulfur dioxide and carbon monoxide, which can cause breathing problems, especially for children, elderly people, and asthma patients.
