Welcome to MVS Blog
The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) has officially released Notification No. 5/2026, dated 2 February 2026, regarding the NIOS April 2026 Exam Fee Notification for RL cases. This notification is specifically for learners who appeared in the NIOS October 2025 Public Examination but whose results were withheld under the RL (Result Later) tag.
This update is extremely important for affected learners enrolled in Secondary and Senior Secondary Courses, as it outlines the exact fee structure, payment schedule, eligibility conditions, and official payment process for appearing in the April 2026 Public Examination.
In this article, we break down the NIOS RL Notification in simple language so students and parents can clearly understand what needs to be done and by when.

Later results appear under RL in NIOS records. A temporary hold on outcomes often ties to procedural checks or qualification criteria yet to be confirmed. Far from signaling poor performance, it simply marks a pause until matters clear up.
Now open for those learners marked RL in the October 2025 Public Examination is a chance to proceed - registration along with payment of the set fee for April 2026 becomes possible under NIOS guidelines detailed in the official notice on exam fees.

The NIOS Exam Fee Notification clearly specifies that it applies only to learners who:
Appeared in the NIOS October 2025 Public Examination
Had their results withheld under the RL tag
The notification provides a structured fee deposit schedule, including normal fees, late fees, and consolidated late fees, along with exact dates.

As per the NIOS RL Notification, the examination fee for RL learners is as follows:
Rs. 300 per subject (without late fee)
Additional Rs. 150 per subject for subjects having a practical component
This fee structure applies to both Secondary and Senior Secondary Courses, subject to eligibility conditions mentioned in the notification.

NIOS has announced a clearly defined fee payment timeline, which learners must follow strictly.
The fee collection schedule is divided into three phases:
Without Late Fee
Dates: 02 February 2026 to 06 February 2026
Fee:
Rs. 300 per subject
Additional Rs. 150 per subject with practical
With Late Fee (Per Subject)
Dates: 07 February 2026 to 09 February 2026
Late Fee: Rs. 150 per subject (in addition to the exam fee)
With Consolidated Late Fee
Dates: 10 February 2026 to 12 February 2026
Late Fee: Rs. 1600 per learner (consolidated)
Learners are strongly advised to deposit the fee within the “without late fee” window to avoid extra charges.

The NIOS RL Notification highlights a critical eligibility condition for Senior Secondary Course learners.
Senior Secondary learners must ensure a compulsory gap of two years between:
The block/session and year of passing the Secondary Examination, and
The attempt to obtain the Senior Secondary passing certificate
If the Two-Year Gap Is Not Completed
The learner can register for a maximum of four subjects only
This count includes subjects already passed
Subject selection must be done very carefully
Failure to follow this rule may affect certification eligibility.

As clearly stated in the NIOS Exam Fee Notification, the examination fee must be paid:
Only through online mode
By visiting the official NIOS website:
sdmis.nios.ac.in
No offline payment modes are permitted. Learners should ensure successful online payment and keep proof of transaction for future reference.

This notification provides RL learners with a clear pathway to continue their academic progress. Missing the fee deposit schedule or ignoring the eligibility conditions may result in:
Inability to appear in the April 2026 examination
Further delay in certification
Academic session loss
Timely action ensures learners stay aligned with the NIOS examination system.

To avoid mistakes, RL learners should:
Read the NIOS Exam Fee Notification thoroughly
Verify subject eligibility before payment
Check whether subjects include practical components
Deposit fees strictly within the prescribed dates
Use only the official NIOS portal for payment
Keep fee receipts and confirmation safely
Being precise at this stage can prevent further complications.
