Answer (i) - He goes to the temple on Tuesday.

Reason: On is used when something is placed over a surface and is touching it.

Answer (ii) - The cat is lying under the table.

Reason: "Under" shows a position lower than or beneath something.

Answer (iii) - He spoke to me in Urdu.

Reason: "To" is used to show the direction of speech or action toward someone.
He is addressing or directing speech to someone, so we use "to."

Q26. Change to reported speech:

(i) Mr. Madan said, "Rahul, come over here for a minute".

Answer - Mr. Madan told Rahul to come over there for a minute. 

(ii) "I will be home for dinner tonight," said my sister.

Answer - My sister said that she would be home for dinner that night. 

Q27. Complete the sentences given below with conjunctions:

(i) The cage was open ___________ the bird flew away.

(ii) Ravi was unhappy __________ his friends were no longer with him.

(iii) Sita is good in Mathematics __________ Gita likes History.

(iv) The principal __________ the teachers greeted the students.

Answer (i) - The cage was open So the bird flew away.'

Reason: The conjunction "so" is used to show cause and effect. The reason the bird flew away is that the cage was open. It connects the cause ("The cage was open") with the effect ("the bird flew away").

Answer (ii) - Ravi was unhappy because his friends were no longer with him.

Reason: "Because" is a conjunction that is used to show the reason or cause for something.

Answer (iii) - Sita is good in Mathematics but Gita likes History.

Reason: "But" is used to contrast two different interests or qualities.

Answer - The principal and the teachers greeted the students.

Reason: "And" is used to join similar subjects doing the same action.

Q28. Complete the following sentences by filling in the blanks using the correct form of verbs given in the brackets.

(i) The thief ___________ (remove/removed) the packet from the shelf.

Answer - The thief removed the packet from the shelf.

Reason: This sentence describes a completed action in the past. Therefore, the simple past tense of the verb remove — which is removed — is used.

(ii) The child _________ (looked/look) at the little white mouse.

Answer - The child looked at the little white mouse.

Reason: The action is clearly in the past — it already happened. The simple past form of the verb look is looked, which fits the sentence.
