Ques 24. What things need to be kept in mind while cleaning stains ?
Answer - While cleaning stains, the following things should be kept in mind:
- As far as possible, remove the stain when it is still fresh.
- For delicate and/or coloured fabrics, first try out the chemical on a small portion of the fabric on the inner side of the seam or some portion of the garment which is not visible when worn. In case the fabric or its colour gets damaged, do not use the chemical.
- Use dilute and mild reagents as these are less harmful, though it may take a little longer to remove the stain.
- Rinse the fabric several times after the removal of the stain, or the reagent may damage the fabric on drying.
Ques 25. How are woolen clothes washed ?
Answer - Washing woolen clothes: Woolen clothes are more delicate than any other clothes used in the house. Woolen clothes have fibers on their surface and if they are not properly maintained, they tend to produce lint. Therefore, special care should be taken while washing woolen clothes.
Knit woolen fabrics lose their shape after getting wet, hence to regain their shape they are dried on a flat surface.
The following steps should be followed for washing woolen clothes:
- Washing machine washes clothes by twisting them, due to which woolen clothes may get damaged or their size may change. Therefore, clean woolen clothes, especially sweaters, only by hand or with a very soft brush.
- Rinse them thoroughly.
- Never wash woolen clothes in hot water. This may make them hairy. Always use cold water only. If it is very necessary then you can make the water slightly lukewarm.
- If necessary, steam press should be done on it.
- If woolen clothes get stained then take a tissue paper. Apply a little soap on it and wipe it with gentle hands. The stains will be removed. It is not necessary to wash the garment completely just to remove the stain.
- After the clothes are completely dry, they should be stored in a dry place in a hanger or on a flat surface with camphor tablets or Odonil tablets.
